ASOS joins Bangladesh Employment Injury Scheme pilot
LONDON, 14 May 2025: ASOS, the global fashion destination, has joined the Employment Injury Scheme (EIS) Pilot in Bangladesh, implemented by the International Labour Organisation and Deutsche Gesellschaft Für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).
Launched in June 2022, the Pilot is the country’s first national employment injury social insurance for ready-made garment (RMG) workers. It provides financial protection for workers and their families following workplace accidents, compensating for loss of earnings due to permanent disability and offering financial support to dependants in the event of a worker’s death.
The Pilot is a strategic initiative, intended to transition into national legislation by 2027. It is targeting 50% of manufacturing market share in Bangladesh by September 2025 to ensure financial sustainability and long-term impact.
Adil Rehman, Head of Human Rights at ASOS, said: “We’re proud to be the latest brand to join the EIS Pilot in Bangladesh and to be providing workers in Bangladesh with the protection they need. We’d encourage other brands and retailers to join the Scheme and help deliver its 50% market share target by this September.”
ASOS’ decision to join the Pilot forms part of its Fashion with Integrity commitment to maintaining and building on its foundation of effective due diligence for its own brand suppliers and delivering enhanced remedy for workers.
