Last week, I joined the stage at RetailX in London, with leaders from Argos and Kingfisher for the opening keynote panel on the future of marketplaces.
To kicking things off, I shared my perspective on where marketplaces are heading – and how we’re approaching it at ASOS. The focus: making sure marketplaces work for customers first, not just expanding choice for the sake of it.
Across the session, we also touched on some key themes:
- the importance of curation alongside scale – offering the right products, not just more products
- helping customers discover and style outfits, rather than simply browse
- creating a marketplace experience that feels consistent, intentional and easy to navigate
The panel also explored broader industry questions, from who owns the customer relationship to how platforms balance growth with experience. A big thread running through the discussion was that relevance and trust matter more than endless choice – and that strong marketplaces are built around clear standards and a strong point of view.
A great day to represent ASOS in a conversation on such an important topic!
