In February, members of the ASOS Foundation trustee board visited Base71 in Barnsley, the first OnSide Youth Zone in Yorkshire. As the team responsible for managing the Foundation and working closely with our charity partners, it’s always powerful to step away from plans and progress updates and see our impact in action.
Walking through Base71, meeting the OnSide team, and seeing young people using the space was genuinely moving. It’s not just somewhere safe to spend time, but a space designed to help young people build confidence, develop skills and feel part of a community.
Visits like this are an important reminder that behind every report, target and figure are real young people whose lives are being shaped by the opportunities we help create. Base71 is something we can all feel incredibly proud of and it simply wouldn’t exist without the fundraising, engagement and volunteering that so many of you continue to support.
Below you can watch a video from Vanessa Spence, our EVP of Brand & Creative and ASOS Foundation Trustee, as she reflected on her experience of seeing the Foundation’s support brought to life so tangibly and the difference spaces like this can make for young people. I hope this video gives you a real sense of what it was like to be there and how your support is helping to create safe, inspiring spaces where young people can thrive.
